The Latino Commission on AIDS (LCOA) , the Hispanic Federation and other organizations organize this day to build capacity for non-profit organizations and health departments to reach Latinx/Hispanic communities, promote HIV testing, and provide HIV prevention information and access to care. The 2021 theme is, "It's time to act. It's time to end HIV.”.
In 2008 the National Association of People with AIDS launched this observance day to recognize the disproportionate impact of the epidemic on gay men.
